Security & The Mobile Workforce

Renaissance Hotel, 999 9th Street, NW
Washington, DC
November 29, 2001

Information Assurance and Security have several components. Concerns include network intrusion, insider misuse of data, protection of privacy, protection from physical disaster and authentication of users.

Right now, many government agencies are still identifying vulnerabilities and doing risk assessments.

Government is turning towards several groups of technologies including encryption, firewalls, PKI, access control devices, biometrics and secure operating systems to achieve security goals.

There have been few “down-to-earth,” practical seminars for government managers who are responsible for their agencies’ information assurance efforts—until now. This seminar features presentations, panels and Q&A opportunities that promote the lively exchange of ideas and provide practical knowledge attendees can “use on the job” the very next day.

Topics for the Information Assurance seminar may include:

  • Today’s security/privacy issues—the threats and acceptable risks.
  • Protecting your agency from the “inside threat.”
  • Monitoring and administrative tools for managing security.
  • Risk analysis as an element in a security/privacy budget effort.
  • The status of Public-Key Infrastructure (PKI) technology, in relation to authentication.
  • Firewalls and secure VPN.
  • Issues associated with portable applications (JAVA and Security).
  • Best practices and agency case studies regarding security/privacy.
